Habbo Hotel Figures On Contagious
Contagious Magazine has some interesting facts from Habbo Hotel, the teen equivalent of a 3D social network or Second Life.
They spoke to 58,000 teens aged 11-18 over 31 countries, including Europe, US and Latin America.
Instant Messenger was used by 76% of respondents to communicate.
Email has seen a dip in usage, being favoured for more ‘official’ […]
Bebo, D&D, Social Wars & More
Sorry if we’ve been a bit quiet recently; to say that we’ve all been as busy as a Web 1.0 giant scurrying round looking for social networks to snap up, would be putting it mildly.
So yes, AOL bought Bebo. It took a lot of people by suprise, but TechCrunch mentioned it as a possibility last […]
The Problem With Facebook Ads? Most Of Them Are Rubbish
There was an excellent article in yesterday’s Media Guardian bemoaning the lack of creativity in the Christmas advertising by the main British retailers. Naresh Ramchandani noted that most of these companies had seen disappointing sales over the festive period (although it’s likely that the general economic uncertainty played a part in that) and compared this […]
Why LinkedIn Is Likely To Cost More Than MySpace
TechCrunch have posted some new data from comScore, showing US traffic to the main social media sites (although there are some notable exceptions such as YouTube, Orkut & Bebo - the latter presumably because they are bigger internationally than in the USA). And whilst a lot of it is relatively unsurprising, there was something that […]
Say No To Knives? Why Not Say No To Websites?
The Guardian reports that the Royal Armouries have launched a new site aimed at encouraging young people not to carry knives. No To Knives was created for ‘just’ £85,000 and the idea behind it, according to museum director Peter Armstrong, is
to do someonthing worthwhile & relevant for the community in return for taxpayers money
In order […]

BBC On Bebo: Nervous Times For Joost?
It’s a weekday so it must be time for another announcement from a social networking site threatening to revolutionise the world of media & business. Google & Facebook have both had their turns, so now it’s time for Bebo to step up to the plate and in many ways their new offering, Open Media, is […]
Facebook Ads: They Won’t Be For Everyone
Last week saw the long-expected anouncement of Facebook’s new advertising platform call, rather snappily, Facebook Ads. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg thinks that it’s going to change the face of advertising, claiming at the launch:
The next 100 years are going to be different for advertisers starting today. For the last 100 years media has been pushed […]
OpenSocial: It’s All About The Context, Stupid
It’s been almost impossible to miss the news leaking out about the launch of Google’s new OpenSocial platform this week, as the names of those networks involved continued to grow. OpenSocial aims to mimic the success of Facebook’s developer platform (although no-one at Google is likely to admit as much) by allowing developers access to […]
The Future Of Search? It’s 4D Isn’t It?
People in our industry are often asked what they think the next developments will be in the growth of the internet, and in particular, search. Well, using the example of how frustrating a recent car journey was, I think I can probably make a pretty good guess.
Historically search has been two-dimensional; what I mean by […]
