Google Street In Golden Square

Whilst standing outside the office a moment ago (OK, I was having a cigarette), I saw the rather strange car that you can see in the image above driving round & round Golden Square. Reports last year suggested that the cars were being used by Google to bring its Street View to the UK (hopefully without the problems that it’s caused them in the US).

There were two people in the car, and they clearly had a very advanced version of Google Maps open on a screen in the car. When one of the people in the car got out I asked whether they were working on Google Street. His, rather enigmatic, response was “Not right now”.

Watch out, Google’s about!

    @Toby - I had a look at that, but there’s nothing on there about Google that I could see. NDA maybe?

    It’s a little different configuration than the Google Van or Cobalt. Quite different from the immersive medias VW though. There have been some sightings in New Zealand as well:

    With a comment like that it must be Google related maybe?
    A friend in America actually got caught on camera smoking outside his house.
    Its great though, but they have caught car crashes and all sorts.
    Google the crime stopper maybe?

    Why not hook Live CCTV via Street View, then we can all be the controllers. Now that would make interesting viewing…
