Glad to see that Sky Movies ad on your list. It made an instant impression on me at the cinema, amazed to find out it was actual billboard frames and not all a cgi cityscape. Also backs ups the point raised in a previous comment that it's not only funnyt ads which get the recognition.

For me the Bravia bunnies ad was maybe trying abit too hard.. only my personal opinion of course. Great, great work still - but v hard to match the impact that the earlier Bravia Balls ad commanded as it seemed so spontaneous at the time.

@mike - the Bravia bunnies actually came out after we compiled this list (I know, probably a bit early to release best of lists, but there you go).

We agree that there's much more that works in ads than just comedy, but as we were particularly looking at ads which had done well online it was inevitable that many of them would be based around comedy/

That being said, whilst the gorilla is bizarre, I wouldn't say that it was actually funny.

There are lots of people talking about 'Brand Utility.'

But the Gorilla ad is the opposite to 'Brand Utility.' Moreover it is as far removed from 'Brand Utility' as any Cadbury's ad. And is one of the most famous ads with as little connection to the product as we have seen. Moreover, this ad enjoyed its success largely in the area of new media (where 'Brand Utility' is meant to be ruling).

The Gorilla ad demonstrates to me that traditional creative advertising is not dying. That those who support 'Brand Utility' will have to argue a lot harder why we should follow it. And, more importantly than argue, actually demonstrate, the importance of 'Brand Utility' over, or at the cost of, traditional creative advertising.
