Will 2007 Be The Year Google Overtakes ITV?

I wrote the other day about the various predictions for when online advertising would overtake print in the US & in that post I mentioned that it seemed like that line had already been crossed in the UK.

Well, it now looks like the UK could beat the US in crossing another major line: the one where online revenues outsrip those from TV - at least if we consider Google & ITV to be the main players in these respective markets.

There was a lot of coverage last year when Channel 4 announced that they would make less from advertising than Google, which prompted some to suggest that Google would go on to outstrip ITV by 2008.

But with ITV’s revenue for the first half of 2007 standing at £717 (which equates to $1.45 billion) and Google’s UK revenues making up approximately 15% of it’s total revenues of $7.5 billion (which I make $1.13 billion, or around £559 million) , I wonder whether this year might be the one where the UK again leads the way in mapping out the future of advertising.
