Guardian Technology Redesign: Not Too Technical
As part of it’s plans to slowly redesign its entire network, The Guardian have now redesigned the Technology section of their site. It fits with the new design already seen on the home page & Travel section, and as we’ve said before, we’re big fans.
But there’s one small problem: it doesn’t seem to support Firefox, the browser of choice for all serious tech geeks. Oops!
If you click on the thumbnail above you’ll be able to see that when viewing a story in Firefox a lot of the text appears out of place. Whilst it only seems to occur with blog posts, it’s still something that we hope they sort out pretty quickly. The Guardian is undoubtedly the most tech savvy of the UK press and we would hate to see them lose that well deserved reputation due to a slight oversight.
Browser compatibility should be an essential part of any web design work and is something that we always build in to any site audits we carry out. Firefox now hasĀ over 20% of the European market and is increasing this rapidly. And it’s not just in the tech world that Firefox is becoming the browser of choice.
When you hear, as my colleague James did recently, a builder explaining to his work mate why he should switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox, you know that a tipping point has been reached.
