Online Marketing Show(s) Continued Growth

Centaur Media’s Online Marketing Show has released some interesting research which shows that online continues to be the place to be in terms of investment in marketing. It follows on from the IAB’s figures showing that online spend topped £2 billion in 2006.

The most interesting figures from the research (IMO) were:

  • 20% of respondents spend more than 50% of their budget online
  • 61% said that online offers the most accountable ROI
  • Just under half said that they planned to work with a digital agency in the next 12 months

Unsuprisingly, considering the amount of coverage sites like Facebook & YouTube have had recently, the majority of responses cited social media as the the focus for future investment.

There are some areas for improvement however with many of those surveyed (40%) saying that they have trouble integrating on & offline campaigns. We know from experience that being able to link online and offline marketing can see a significant increase in response. And not doing so, can mean that others can effectively ambush your marketing budget. So if you’re a marketer who intends to concentrate on social media this year, just make sure that you don’t let other things slide because you do.
