MSN Doesn’t Dig Digg
People often ask why MSN hasn’t been able to dominate the search landscape as it has in the PC sector. One reason might be that it doesn’t provide results as relevant as the other major engines.
For example, Threadwatch have pointed out that if you search for the social news site digg on MSN Live, the 1st result is not the site itself, but the Wikipedia entry about the site. Now I realise that Wikipedia dominates the results for a lot of major searches, but most of the engines can at least put an actual brand above its Wikipedia entry.
Having seen this, I thought that I would test the other engines for the same search terms. Google & Yahoo! both got it exactly right, whilst Ask returned the URL digg.org, which does redirect to the main digg site, but using a 302 & not a 301.
As we have said here before, 301s are very important and digg really should be listening to the free advice that others have offered them on this topic.
