I want to try Second life but it won’t let me in
I’ve been meaning to give Second Life a try now for a few months but as I use Linux at home I’ve never had the chance to give it a go (though apparently I can get it to work in Ubuntu).
For work reasons (honestly) I needed to get it up and running here at eyefall HQ so went to the signup page, filled in the extensive application form, spent half an hour trying to find a name that was available and just as I thought I’d cracked it received the following error:
*IAmSpartacus Sands, You are unable to create an account at this time.*
Linden Lab reserves the right to limit the number of Second Life accounts an
individual may have. If you feel you’ve reached this message in error,
please email customer support at support@lindenlab.com
I emailed the support team and got an automatic response saying that in week days they will get back almost instantly and received nothing within 24 hours so dropped them another email which they eventually replied to saying that the IP address I was trying to register from was a workplace / college / school and had reached it’s registration limit – I was told to phone the support centre to get it sorted out.
Picking up a phone in the age of the internet and virtual worlds? Heaven forbid!
I mailed them back asking for them to just increase the threshold (as there are others here in the office that would like to jump onto the bandwagon) and received another mail saying I needed to phone up to get it sorted.
So I did just that, was told that the expected hold time was 8-10 minutes and eventually after 20 minutes on hold received a message saying no-one could take my call and put my though to a voicemail to use instead.
I just found it rather ironic that for this new massive virtual world they require you to give them a call and don’t even have the decency to pick up the phone!

Yet another example of very poor customer service. When will the web-world finally cotton on that this (Cust Serv) needs to be very high on their list of priorities? and not a by product or after thought.
Eijits.
What is the phone number you call. And you ever get to make an acount.
I had exactly the same problem… I connect via wireless connection with T-Mobile, and I guess I’m not the only one… surely there must be other sites similar to this that others can use? I mean… if they don’t hav ethe infrastructure to handle more people, then maybe we should go to somewhere that does?
