How To Write For People & Search Engines
There are many buzz phrases that fly in & out of fashion in this sector, but recently most have centred on the fact that for a succesful website, you have to have great content:
Content is king; Conversation is king - content is something to talk about; etc..
So, when thinking of search engine optimisation and the fact that the search engine spiders can only read text & are essentially blind to images, video & sound, how should you go about creating that content? Well, if you’re a journalist (or blogger, or anyone who publishes text to the web) you need to think about how you structure what you write.
As a guide to this, I have been publishing a series of blog posts over on the excellent SEOmoz site, and now that the whole series is live, I thought that I would point you in their direction. These articles are aimed at professional journalists moving from print to online, but the rules hold true for anyone creating content online.
- Introduction to writing online & advice about finding & using keywords.
- How to structure headlines & the main body copy of an article.
- Why linking out from an article is a good thing to do.
- How social media can help increase your audience online.
- Why landing pages will help news rank in the search engines & how they can turn visitors into users.
I hope that you find these articles useful, but if you’d like some more in-depth advice on how to make great editorial content in the Web 2.0 world, just give us a call.
