experian Buys Hitwise
Internet traffic analysis company Hitwise has been bought by credit checking firm experian. Hitwise, which provides data on internet traffic, by analysing ISP data, has around 1,200 clients globally with offices in the US, UK, Australasia and SE Asia.
The most interesting thing about this deal is that it will (I assume) allow Hitwise to tie it’s internet usage data into the demographic data that experian provides even more closely than it has done for the last 4 years (during which time Hitwise & experian have already been working together). This will give their clients even more information; not just on how many people visit their sites, but what sort of people they are.
Hitwise have been able to build up a pretty impressive public profile in the tech sector thanks to entertaining and insightful staff such as their VP of research, Heather Hopkins. Whilst we at eyefall are strictly agnostic in our attitudes to the providers of all such services, we certainly think that Hitwise can be a very powerful tool in the hands of the right client. We look forward to seeing how they can progress now that they have such a corporate giant behind them.
