It's becoming a scary world where advertising agencies will eventually know everything about us, and will therefore tailor everything to us.

The start is already out there, as you've said, but it has stretched away from the TV, and will get even worse:

See the bbc's story on how advertising is getting personal...

Not that I'm a luddite, in fact far from it, I always try and have at least a clue on what the next big thing is going to be. In particular, I'm really looking forward to the day when I'm travelling in the middle of nowhere looking for somewhere to go for food / drink, and stumble across a gprs / bluetooth tag left by a recent visitor to a local tavern, or so we are promised one day (see this article about bluetooth hypertagging for some interesting info).

Essentially this means I can be strolling down any highstreet in the world, stumble across a little known cafe, turn on my bluetooth and find some useful info from Jonny Local about the quality of the establishment. I do question what would happen if the info was along the lines of "I was in the toilet for 2 weeks after eating here...", and how the establishment would be able to alter the tag, but in essence it is a very interesting concept.

Moving from adverts targetted towards us to adverts placed on us, I've read that there's currently textiles being developed that incorportate LED technology, allowing people to have moving graphics on their clothes. This will enevitably lead to companies vying for placement on the chest of the most famous amongst us, so the rich will indeed just get richer. However, it could also mean being able to change your clothing at the touch of a button, so finding you're wearing the same outfit as your mate on a night out could be a thing of the past.
