Visit Venice
When our CEO suggested taking the company to Venice for a few days it seemed like a good idea. It’s been a busy year, everyone’s put in a huge amount of effort so lets get together, get away from the office, go wild…. in Venice?
To be honest it seemed like a slightly strange choice. Not Barcelona with the all night drinking of Las Ramblas. amsterdam with its… nightlife, or Paris with it’s nightclubs. Venice. Probably not the number one destination for a company trip.
Don’t think we weren’t grateful. It’s not every day you get taken away but it did seem like a slightly odd choice.
But what we discovered was a city that had everything we could have wanted and all set in an inspirational backdrop of canals, architecture, history and art.
We spent two nights in a hotel at the back of St Marks square. Some of us managed a few extra nights. We had guided tours, we ate great food and experienced legendary Italian service (or lack of). We explored bars throughout the city, some of us stumbling from one to another!
We visited galleries, we toured in gondolas, we ate beside the Grand Canal. We had an amazing time.
It’s easy to look at Venice as a cliché. It’s so well known and so oversubscribed by tourists. But in the clear blue skies and fresh chill of November it proved to be more than any of us expected.

You took that excellent gondola photo from your hotel - on Bacino Orseolo ?
That’s probably not the view from the hotel, very similar though to non-Venetians! Photo credit goes to Lergik.
I did take an excellent photo of the gondolas….cheers….from the balcony of the Hotel Calveletto overlooking Bacino Orseolo
So it is the hotel. Help if i knew where we stayed!
[…] When I got back from last November’s company trip to Venice, I said to Mrs G that I would take her back. Next thing I know, she’s booked the tickets. […]
